Outfest 2009

I just got this in the email from my screenwriting professor who required us to work at Outfest 2008 and guess what?! We're on the '09 email flyer! It's awesome.

I think the most ironic part is that all four of us girls in that photo are straight. Oh well! It was super duper fun and I am thinking I might do it again this year. I love being at opening night, so many cool people to see, free food to eat, and free drinks to pilfer. Last year Crystal and I danced with some actress from Queer as Folk!

bad economy = depression

Seriously, I am massively stressed out right now! I am a college graduate who wants to make movies, living in the city of movies, who can't find a damn job if her life depended on it (which it does). I have scoured craigslist in LA, SF, Portland, Seattle, and even Olympia for work and there's nothing. When I do find something, I send in a cover letter and resume and never hear back. I've sent out employment inquiries to all the major film festivals up and down the west coast. I have called in favors to the people I already know working in the industry. I have called my parents to ask advice and all I get is "I don't know what to tell you, its bad right now." How the fuck does that help?

Then Adam and I discuss moving to WA in order to save some money, possibly put ourselves in a less depressing economy (more for him than me), and try that for a while. I agree that I'm willing to take a break from LA for a while, but we do some research and there is still no work for me. I do more research and figure out that it would cost $3000 (with the current break our property management company is giving us to break our lease, which may expire in a month) to move all of our stuff to Washington. We don't have that kind of money because we don't have jobs! Not to mention, Adam was layed off and now his stupid greedy ex-boss is contesting the unemployment. So, he's not getting any of that money.

I am shit fucked up a god damn motherfucking creek and I don't know what to do! I am so stressed I can't even cry because there is too much other stuff getting in the way. I need a fucking job where I can get paid what I'm worth. So, here's my plea to any and all friends on the west coast. If you know of work (especially in film, TV, or other media fields) please tell me about it so I can at least apply or inquire.

FUCK MY LIFE.

The Fight Goes On

I just saw this for the first time via Facebook and it really moved me. He makes such an eloquent arguement. I just got the email that the CA supreme court ruled in favor of Prop 8 so I'm about to click on some ads and forward some emails, in hopes of stopping this hate.

obama doc

Okay, so I'm trying to work on and finish my Obama documentary in the next few weeks and I need pictures from election night! I really don't want to use the one's everyone has seen online or in the papers...I want personal photos from my friends or acquaintances. I think it would be more impactful. Anway, this is my official call for photos! Please, don't be shy. You will receive credit also. Pass it on.

EXCITING NEWS!!!

So, this is really exciting for me...I'm going to inauguration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have a ticket, but I am on the waiting list for both senators and my representative. It doesn't matter whether I get a ticket or not, just being there is going to be monumental. Apparently there are balls and galas all over town and the parade starts at 8 or 9am. Observers get to watch on Jumbo trons if they don't have tickets...so it works out either way! I am going to do a documentary short of my journey from So Cal to Wa DC and what Obama's election means to the little person. I am going to have so much footage but it will probably boil down to less than 10 minutes. Adam and I have flights, hotel, and car already booked...now I'm going to be doing a funding drive. Although I know I will go through with this even if I don't get full funding, I am going to try. So, beware friends...you may be getting an email or a letter. :)

Oh yeah, if you want to be interviewed for the doc, let me know.

Protest Prop 8

My night has been interesting...there was a No on Prop 8 rally on my block. Adam and I marched with them for a mile before turning home (we didn't know we would be marching). Here are some pictures:

A Brand New Day...

This is my mood today, "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!"

I think that sums it up. I am about to go scavenging for newspaper headlines, does anyone know how to get some Obama election material? I never got approached by anyone during this election and I never ended up looking for it, but now I want it desperately for memories sake. I think it will be amazing to keep these until I'm 80 and share with my grandchildren what it felt like on this day. Seriously friends, I cried like a bitch and I ain't afraid to admit it! Hope and change are a beautiful thing.

Thank you 64% of the voting public for going out there and having your voices heard, we can change this country and we have...I feel great. Hearing all the cheers and honking and hollering outside my windows last night was inspiring. Getting numerous text messages from friends while watching his speech was an amazing feeling I will never forget. For the first time in a long time, I don't feel complete cynicism towards this country.

I am so totally fucked this summer. I am probably not going to be awarded anything for Unemployment since I quit to go back to school (which according to the state, is not a good enough reason to quit), thus I am royally screwed. I think I will be arriving in WA soon so I can get rejected in another state...because being down here with no work and no money is torture. I can't think of a better way to get out of this but relocate for a while and hope for the best. Ugh. My life sucks so much ass right now.

I am so bored, I wanna die...

I hate being unemployed...this sucks so much ass. I can't find shit and I am going to get unemployment which is great but I hate living here! I have no friends within a reasonable distance from me. I am so fucking bored!!!!!!!!!!! All my friends live north which means traffic and gas money. I am soooooo lonely for some friends...*cry* This is why I wanted to move to WA for the rest of the summer, at least I wouldn't be bored.

Calling all friends...

I am looking for a temporary job for the next 6 weeks or so. I will move back to WA temporarily if there is a job for me. I can't find shit in LA for temp work...I am getting desperate! Seriously, let me know if you have any leads. :)

Earthquake

We just had a 5.8 earthquake outside LA...we felt it very much so in Irvine. It shook pretty good and I actually got up to go to a doorway, which doesn't always happen but it lasted a decent amount of time. A lot of people can't get through on their cell phones, but I'm sure things will be back to normal within the hour. Everyone is fine, no damage, life as usual in So Cal. :) Thought you all would like the update.

OUTFEST 2008

Wednesday night was Outfest 2008 Opening Gala event! I was so stoked to go to this thing but my day was horrible leading up to it. I was running around everywhere trying to find Sameera (who I carpooled with) and buying some black pants and a nice shirt, getting gussied up, etc, etc. Anyway, when we finally made it downtown we were an hour early! So, we had to get cash from Wamu and when we went in there was a line of fifty people because the ATM's were not working. Ugh, I hate waiting in lines. Luckily, it wasn't that long of a wait. So, when we finally managed to have the money to park behind the Orpheum we got a great spot and went in to check in. I think we stood around chatting up the other volunteers for an hour before we actually did any work. Around 6pm we went inside the party area and staked our claims on our chosen positions. I met some really cool people that were also volunteering. It was weird to be the token straight person, I don't know that I've ever been in a situation like that, I didn't mind it so much. Then the people started pouring in: Perez Hilton, RuPaul, Tracy Scoggins, Jane Lynch, etc. I got really bored in the midst of it because it was hard to get around with all the people and there wasn't much to do in terms of the silent auction. I did get a few compliments regarding my big flower pin and my glasses...nice! After our shift was over Sameera and I changed and waited for an hour before they let us into the after party. We got a great table near the dance floor and we drank a few cocktails, ate a few tapas, and Crystal and I danced for a while. Turns out one of the ladies we were dancing with was on Queer as Folk, so Crystal got a picture. We did a bit in the photo booth then we were outta there at about midnight. It was a really long day and my feet were killing me, but it was worth it. I didn't meet anyone regarding screenwriting but I had so much fun!!

If you feel like seeing some new family pics...here they are:

The second one is of Lil' Denis who is almost a clone of my dad. Although, he has Danielle's ears. Sometimes I catch myself calling Denis, Remi...my mom said she does it too. :) He's so cute!

I just finished watching The Bridge. I can't explain how it makes you feel except just heavy on your heart. Especially, when you lived in San Francisco and you looked at the golden gate so lovingly not knowing that someone might be jumping at that very same moment. I think the most horrifying part was all the video of the people actually jumping. How does someone film that? I couldn't do it.
